Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo
At the Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo, we investigate the impact that food and ingredients have on people’s health. We do this on the basis of questions from industry or science, which are examined from all the necessary research directions. We literally follow the journey that nutrition makes through our bodies, in a chain of laboratories that has been specially built so we can simulate and investigate every step. We are also working on new ways of plant breeding and cultivating, which lead to a higher nutritional value and yield. In this way, we help—literally from seed to plate—to get the maximum out of food. Our campus is developing into the place where business, science and education meet to share knowledge about healthy food, plant breeding and cultivation, and alternative raw materials, as well as to develop and market new products.
Discover the wonderful world of food – Kokkerelli
We will start with an ingredients table where the students meet with a cook to learn everything about the different products with which they will prepare a dish. The students are taken through the story behind a food product. Then they will help with the preparation of a dish that is eaten during lunch.
Taste tests & introduction to TIM (gastrointestinal simulator) – Maastricht University
Why do we find sugar so delicious? Why do we buy certain products? And why do children usually dislike vegetables? These are all questions that are addressed by the Behavioural gastronomy research line under the direction of Remco Havermans. Through fun smell and taste tests, students will learn that the taste experience is not as simple as is often thought. Students can also get acquainted with the TIM gastrointestinal simulator.
Maastricht University Campus Venlo
Did you know that Maastricht University also has a campus in Venlo? Get acquainted with the unique bachelor’s degree programme at University College Venlo (UCV), where the focus is on Food, Nutrition & Health. UCV students choose which courses they want to follow based on their interest. The day ends with a tour of the city centre of Venlo, so future students can see what Venlo has to offer.
